Autumn Colours

This week in Art Mr Smyth’s Class have been looking at the colours in nature during Autumn.

We looked at the different colours and shades of the leaves.

We mixed yellows and reds to make different shades of orange.

Tree Hunt in the Phoenix Park

Mr Smyth and 1st and 2nd class went for a nature walk in the Phoenix Park this week.  We looked at the animals around us- Swans, Water Hens, Ducks and Squirrels and examined the trees in the park- Maple, Oak and Horse Chestnut trees.  The children examined the colours of the leaves around them for their Art work this week and they discovered and collected leaves, branches and seeds from a number of trees.

The Munch Ride- Learning about Digestion

Mr Smyth’s Class are learning about the “Munch Ride”- the digestive process in Science this month. They also examined the skeletal system.

Check out the wonderful work they are doing creating life size Human Body posters as they explore the organs of the human body.

Mind Your Mind Art Competition

Recently, we held an art competition with the theme “Mind Your Mind”. There were some fantastic entries, and it was wonderful to see children working together on posters too.

All posters were displayed at the Children and Youth Action Group’s Midterm break event “Young Minds” in the Complex Youth Theatre. At “Young Minds”, children explored the theme “Mind Your Mind” through dance, music, art and drama over two days.

Congratulations to everyone who took the time to create a poster, and a very special “WELL DONE” to our three winners.
