Maths Week 2015 is Here!

Maths Week 2015 is currently underway in St. Gabriel’s N.S. and around the island of Ireland!  We have many activities taking place during the week from Maths Trails to the Times Tables Tournament among other events.  We need  as many parents as possible to come and take part in our Maths Games Extravaganza this Wednesday 14th October.  All the children from Junior Infants to 6th Class will come together in the P.E. Hall at 9 am to play a number of Maths games that include topics such as Number, Shape and Space, Fractions, Time etc.  Please let us know if you can come and be a part of Maths Week 2015 and an event that our pupils gain a lot from every year!

Maths Week 2015

The pupils and teachers of St. Gabriel’s will be celebrating national Maths Week 2015 from the 12th to the 16th of October.  As well as making Maths lessons extra fun every day that week, a number of events will also take place throughout the school, with pupils from Junior Infants to 6th Class taking part.  During the week there will be different Maths Trails taking place around the school and in the Phoenix Park.  The children from 1st Class to 6th Class will be vying for a spot in the Tables Championship finals on Thursday.  On Wednesday at 9 am, every pupil in the school will take part in a Maths Games Extravaganza in the P.E. Hall and we look forward to seeing as many parents as possible taking part in this fantastic event.  For more information on Maths Week Ireland check out

Showing Kindness in Good Friend’s Week

Here in Saint Gabriel’s, we like to start each new school year off on the right foot. We always focus on how we can be good friend’s to one another during the first week of school. And we’ve gotten really great at that over the last few years.

So this year, our focus is on kindness. We are working hard to be kind to our friends and classmates, by doing things like sharing, welcoming our new classmates, helping each other out, and including everyone in our play.

We are also doing activities in our classes to practise new ways of being kind. It feels good to be kind to others and it’s a super way to start the new school year.

Alice in Wonderland comes to St. Gabriel’s

Monday morning was very exciting this week for both the pupils and teachers of St. Gabriel’s when M & M Productions, an international theatre group, returned to put on another amazing show.  The production this year was Alice in Wonderland and this magical story was brought to life for all the children in a vivid and imaginative way.  Everyone really enjoyed the antics of The White Rabbit and The Mad Hatter and the only disappointment was when the show was over.  What a great way to start off the week!

Our Green Walk 2015!

The staff and pupils of St. Gabriel’s came together for our annual sponsored Green Walk to mark the end of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2015.  A busy week was had by all as we celebrated our language and culture (teanga agus cultúr)  with a series of events such as a concert (ceolchoirm) with Irish poems and songs from the children from Junior Infants to 6th Class, a quiz in Irish (Tráth na gCeist) and some céilí dancing. On Friday, we all dressed in green and walked around the Stoneybatter area.  Thank you to all the friends, families and neighbours who kindly sponsored the pupils and we are confident that we have raised even more funds for school events than ever before! Go raibh míle maith agaibh gach duine.

St. Gabriel’s Annual Art Exhibition a Resounding Success

Our annual Art Exhibition, which took place on February 12th, 2015 was once again a great success thanks to the talented artists of St. Gabriel’s.  A myriad of beautiful and original pieces were on display for the parents and members of our community to enjoy, with our knowledgeable and interesting curators from 4th, 5th and 6th classes guiding everyone through the exhibition.

We welcomed the children from Rainbows and Dunard playgroups, parishioners from the Church of the Holy Family in Aughrim Street, members of Dublin City Council including Cllr. Ray McAdam representing the Lord Mayor, the parents of future, current and past pupils, community workers from groups such as An Síol and Áosóg, neighbours and many more.

Thank you to the parish centre in Prussia Street for the use of the display boards and a huge thank you to all our teachers and S.N.A.s who helped to set up the exhibition.  Finally a sincere thank you to all our curators and all the artists from Junior Infants to 6th Class who made this such a proud and enjoyable day.

Hosanna Rock!

Today the children of St. Gabriel’s performed Hosanna Rock, a musical nativity, for parents, neighbours and friends of the school.
Well done to all the classes who performed each song beautifully. They were helped out brilliantly by Junior Infants who acted out parts of the nativity story. A huge well done goes to David our narrator and to Roy and Rebecca who also helped to tell the story. Well done also to our choir who stayed after school every Wednesday for the past few weeks to practice.
It was a lovely occasion and thank you to all who attended!
