Afterschool Club help create Smithfield’s Haunted House

The Wednesday Afterschool club is over for this half-term. There were two groups – Miss Fahey’s Variety Club , and Miss O’Loughlin’s Halloween Art Club.
The Halloween Art club made big, bright, colourful birds, autumn leaves and fruit for the trees in Grimm’s Fairy Tale Forest, and Golden Magic Mirror Frames for Snow White’s corner. The group had great fun creating the pieces, and they have now been brought to Step by Step’s building on Coke Lane in Smithfield, where the Haunted House “Escape from the Gingerbread Zombie Mansion” is again this year.
The Haunted House is open from 4-6pm on Halloween evening but get there early to avoid disappointment. There will also be lots of spooky family fun on Smithfield Square at the Cauldron of Smithfield from 5 – 9:30pm.
Wishing you all a happy and safe Halloween.
School reopens Monday 6th November at 8:50am.

Halloween Art

In the Sunshine room this week we have been doing Halloween art.
We used our fingerprints to make the outline of bats.
We used our hands to print spiders on paper plates and then threaded twine around to make spider webs.
We used toilet rolls cut up and dipped in paint to print more spiders.

Autumn art

In the Sunshine room we looked at autumn colours and made some autumn trees. We made the leaves using three different methods.
First we used dish brushes dipped in paint.
Next we used our own fingerprints.
Last of all we tore up yellow, red, orange and brown paper and glued them onto the trees.

Buddies Trip to the Phoenix Park

Junior Infants and their buddies in Fifth and Sixth Class went on a trip to the Phoenix Park last week.

We followed a trail around the park as part of the Outdoor and Adventure Activities strand for P.E., going around the pond, up the hill, around the flower beds and through the trees.  After that we looked for different types of leaves, such as oak and sycamore, and then everybody collected lots of conkers and acorns.  Finally we were lucky to see some of the swans and their cygnets as we were about to leave the park.

The Junior Infants children loved having their buddies to look after them and help them find lots of interesting things.  The two classes are looking forward to another trip very soon!

Autumn Colours

This week in Art Mr Smyth’s Class have been looking at the colours in nature during Autumn.

We looked at the different colours and shades of the leaves.

We mixed yellows and reds to make different shades of orange.

Hope you enjoy the pictures below of our class working on our colours

Tree Hunt in the Phoenix Park

Mr Smyth and 1st and 2nd class went for a nature walk in the Phoenix Park this week.  We looked at the animals around us- Swans, Water Hens, Ducks and Squirrels and examined the trees in the park- Maple, Oak and Horse Chestnut trees.  The children examined the colours of the leaves around them for their Art work this week and they discovered and collected leaves, branches and seeds from a number of trees.
