Handprint animals

In the Sunshine room we made animals using our hand-prints.
We made crabs, octopuses, jellyfish, alligators, spiders and dinosaurs.
We used our fingerprints to make the eyes.

Junkyard Robots

Last month Mr Smyth’s Class learned about Recycling. This month in Art we are doing construction and have created very cool Junkyard Robots from recyclable materials we found around our homes. Thanks to all the mums and dads who helped the children collect materials. Anything we didn’t use went into our classroom’s recycle bins for plastic, paper and cardboard.

Lollipop Construction

We did construction with lollipops today in Ms Sweetman’s class.

Circle Printing

In the Sunshine room we used circular objects (toilet roll holders, yogurt cartons, bottle lids) dipped in paint to print circle pictures.

Science Week

As part of Science Week we in Mr Smyth’s 1st and 2nd Class have been talking about Forces.

We carried out experiments looking at the effect of slopes on how far cars moved.

Quavers to Quadratics in the National Concert Hall

The pupils from 5th and 6th Class recently took part in Quavers to Quadratics, a collaborative initiative between the National Concert Hall, Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin.  The programme is centred around enabling primary school children to explore the overlap between science and music.

The children spent the whole day in the National Concert Hall taking part in three different workshops, (1) Seeing Sound, (2) Feeling Sound and (3) Creating Sound. Every pupil was really engaged in the different activities and had a fantastic day.

Tables Championship Finals!

One of the most popular events every year in Maths Week in St. Gabriel’s is the Tables Championship.  Pupils from 1st to 3rd Class battle it out to become the junior champion, and those from 4th to 6th Class compete for the senior crown.  In a tense final, Ms. McLoone had to keep adding more and more difficult sums until the winners finally emerged.  Well done to all involved!
