Welcome to our brand Family Learning Room

With growing emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education, and great value on the importance of parents in their children’s education, we are thrilled to have officially opened our brand new Family Learning Room earlier this month.

The Family Learning Room was generously funded by ABC Grangegorman and is well stocked with a fantastic range of both educational and fun toys and activities that can be enjoyed by all the family, young and old.

The room was officially opened on 3rd May by Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, with special guests from ABC Grangegorman, Tusla EWS Integrated Services, parents, staff and members of the school’s community.

Families are already having lots of fun playing together every Monday and Tuesday afternoon, and this will continue until the end of the school year.

Stories Between Us Exhibition Launch

5th/6th class have done a lot of work, as well as having had a lot of fun, working on the Stories Between Us project this year. This intergenerational oral history project brought the children together with adults from Phibsboro Retirement Group and Henrietta Adult Community Education to play and share stories about their hobbies and pastimes.

A lot of behind the scenes work has happened since Christmas and the exhibition of the work done is now on display in the National Museum, Collins Barracks, where it will be until the end of September.

At the launch, the children returned to the museum to meet again with the adults they met during the project. They got to play and chat together again. The launch ceremony included lots of speeches, and best of all – one by our very own Dennis from 6th class. He did a wonderful job representing the experience he and his classmates had taking part in the project. We are all so proud of him.

Make sure to take some time to visit the exhibition over the coming months, and have a chat with your own families about play past and present.

STAR Awards 2019

The 7th annual STAR Awards (Students’ Talents are Recognised) took place in the beautiful President’s Hall of the Law Society, Blackhall Place last Thursday 9th May.

40 pupils and past pupils from four local schools were presented with awards. Nine of our fantastic pupils and one past pupil were recognised and nominated by their peers, parents, staff and community for their talents and contribution to the school and wider community.

Awards were given out for Academic work, Art, Music, Drama, Dance, Sport, Participation in the School Community, Helping Others, Involvement in the community, and the Special Award for Past Pupils.

It was a wonderful occasion where the pupils’ families were there to celebrate the hard work, talents and contributions made by the winners.

Well done to all!

Green Walk and Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge was again one of the busiest weeks of the year for the pupils and staff in St. Gabriel’s.  The week started on a high note with our sponsored Green Walk, where the local people of Stoneybatter were taken by surprise with a whole school of little green people taking to the streets!   A huge thank you to all the parents, guardians, family, friends and neighbours who supported the children as they raised funds for our school.

Other events that took place during the week included the Céilí Mór sa halla (agus bhí sé an-mhór ar fad, gach duine ag damhsa ó 9:15 go 10:45!), Tráth na gCeist/Table Quiz and the movie Amhrán na Mara/Song of the Sea shown as Gaeilge to round out the week!
