Bricks absorb moisture from the ground and this moisture rises up the walls. A damp course stops this from happening.<\/h5>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>The aim of the experiment was to see what material will make the best damp course i.e. stop water rising up though walls.<\/h5>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>We used sugar cubes as \u2018bricks\u2019.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>We put a small amount of water on a plate and added a few drops of food colouring<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>We put two sugar cubes, one on top of the other, into the water. The water rose up though the sugar cubes straight away.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>Next we put sugar lumps into the water with a piece of kitchen towel, a piece of greaseproof paper and a piece of plastic between them.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">What happened?<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>The kitchen towel let the water through to the second cube.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>The greaseproof kept the water from getting to the second cube most of the time but eventually it began to seep through.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>The plastic stopped the water from going through completely.<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Therefore we decided that plastic was the
