On Tuesday 18th June, when we came into school, three women from Ingenious Ireland came to our class to do a workshop with us.
We learned lots about Irish inventors:
Did you know that Cheese and Onion flavoured crisps were invented by an Irish man named Joseph Murphy?! The submarine was also an Irish Invention, as was the periscope. Howard Grubb invented that.
An Irish doctor went to the Caribbean and saw people drinking unrefined chocolate. He thought it was too bitter and decided to add milk to it – and so we have milk chocolate. His name was Hans Sloan.
We got to make things out of Sugru.
Sugru is a material that is bouncy and soft. It is silicone. Sugru is waterproof and hardens in the air in 24 hours.
Sugru can help you with lots of stuff – like if your pencil parer is damaged you can fix it with Sugru. You can fix a leaking bath tub, a sink, tables, chairs – ANYthing!
95% of the class made snakes and balls with the Sugru. They can help with lots of things like grips. But 5% of the class (that’s one boy!) brought his X-Box joy stick and made the triggers more comfortable.
It was really fun. Check out the pictures of things we made – pencil things that look like snakes. We also made bouncy balls and put Sugru on game controllers to make them more comfortable to hold…no more blisters from too much game playing!
