Senior Infants tried out the experiment Balloon Blow Up. This experiment follows on from the last experiment Bubble Bomb as it also uses vinegar and baking soda to create a gas called carbon dioxide.
We wanted to see could we get the gas to blow up balloons.
This is what we did:
1. We mixed water and vinegar together. We poured about an inch of the vinegar/water mixture into bottles.
2. We used a funnel to fill the balloons half full of baking soda.
3. We stretched the open end of the balloon over the neck of the bottle letting the heavy end dangle over the side.
4. Finally we lifted up the heavy end of the balloonand let the baking soda fall into the bottle.
The reaction between the vinegar and baking soda created the gas carbon dioxide and blew up the balloons!
