World Cup Reports:
Week 3
Match Reports
Group One:
Romania 1 (Leon) V Benin 0
Romania who lost last week were playing for pride on Friday and they sure did! A wonderful display from Romania earned them a win and 3 points. Leon’s goal clinched the match for the Romanian side. The goal dashed Benin’s hopes of jumping China to top the table.
China then go through from Group One to the first semi-final!
Group Two:
Estonia 2 (Johan, Ben) V Nigeria 0
Last week’s loss meant Poland was out of the competition and with the final game of the group on Friday, Nigeria needed to go through to the semi-finals. If the game ended in a draw, Estonia would top the group and go through. Nigeria began without star performer from last years competition Michael Hutchinson- out injured. 2 great goals from Ben and Johan meant Estonia took the points and topped the group and will join China in the semi-finals on Friday.
Group Three:
Albania 0 V South Africa 6 [Ryan(4 goals) Roy (2 goals)]
The South African diamond striker Ryan bagged another impressive 4 goals today to see South Africa into the semi-final and continue his fight for the golden boot. In a partnership like Liverpools SAS, Sturridge and Suarez, South Africa’s other striker Roy scored twice. This brings the RAR (Ryan and Roy) duos competition total to an amazing 15 goals. With a strike force like this they will be a hard team to beat!
Group Four:
India 1 (Kevin) V Lithuania 1 (Nicolas)
Greece, despite not playing today, went into the match as favourites to progress to the semi-finals having won one and drew one match. However, if Lithuania beat India by more than 5 goals they could spoilt the Greek party!
It wasn’t to be and the game ended in a draw with both Kevin and Nicolas taking a goal each for India and Lithuania.
Greece now progress to the semi-finals versus South Africa.
Semi-Finals and Finals take place this Friday in the local Sports Centre.
