World Cup Champions 2020 - Poland

Can you believe it that 10 weeks ago today we were all in Aughrim Street Sports Centre for the finals of our wonderful World Cup soccer competition? 12 teams took part initially in the group stages. Each team’s name represented pupils’ and their families’ multicultural background which we celebrate annually with our One World Week activities.
In our first semi final Somalia played India and got the better of them! Next Romania played against Poland. Poland were victorious in this semi final. After that, India played Romania for 3rd place. Romania proved too strong for them. And then came the final between Poland and Somalia…It was tense…it was hard fought…the crowd erupted with excitement with every goal that was scored! As the final whistle was blown, Poland jumped in the air to celebrate their fantastic victory in the 2020 World Cup final!!
I would like to extend a huge thank you on behalf of the school to the incredible Ian Hill from the FAI who refereed all the games. Also, a lot of credit has to be given to all the pupils from 2nd class to 6th who took part in the competition. They all had great attitudes and a lovely sense of fair play. Poland won our very first World Cup back in 2003 and were very worthy winners again in 2020. Gratulacje!!!
