HSCL update, June 2020

Hello all,

We hope you are all continuing to keep well, and have enjoyed some of the wonderful sunshine and increased freedoms recently.

For parents and families we have a exciting and activity-filled month planned for June, including Sports Week, Art Week, and Poetry Week. Staff have been working very hard on this, so please keep an eye on the website and on SeeSaw for updates from your class teachers, and enjoy taking part!

This week would have seen the 2nd edition of the Blackhall Cup, a soccer tournament hosted by St. Gabriel’s and The Law Society. Hopefully it will return next year. The FAI have made some activities available for schools and parents in the meantime. Their Homeskills series is available on YouTube  and every weekday at 11am a new skill is posted on their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. They also have a Healthy Eating guide here and have launched the No Barriers programme. This is aimed at 2nd-6th class and details players and people overcoming barriers. Find it here.

Thanks to parents, staff and children for making distance learning such a success at St. Gabriel’s NS, through SeeSaw and our school website. The responsible and appropriate use of ICT has been essential to remote learning, but it’s important to take a break too. That’s why staff here always provide options for non-screen based learning. Here are some more resources for parents who may be worried about their child’s use of mobile phones or devices, and how best to engage with this issue. This HSE-funded site and facebook page has some excellent video resources on this topic, and more parenting advice besides.

It is hoped that Dublin City Libraries will reopen from Monday 8th June; in the meantime there are still many online resources available to access remotely. You can always join at any time and the library offers a home delivery service for people who are cocooning.
