Second class enjoyed exploring shape and symmetry recently. We loved identifying symmetrical shapes and wanted to create our own symmetrical pictures. Below are a selection of images we made using our attribute blocks.
We also created our own symmetrical structures using Blue Blocks in our P.E. hall.
Last night, eight students from 4th, 5th and 6th Class attended the Credit Union Table Quiz in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown making up two teams of four. There were 52 teams taking part in the quiz. Our two wonderful teams finished 7th and 10th overall. They should be very proud of themselves for the hardwork they have put in. A massive thanks to Mr Delaney for all his hard work in organising the teams for the event!
In maths, the children in 1st Class have been busy learning all about 2D shapes. We engaged in lots of oral discussions and hands-on activities to explore a variety of 2D shapes and discover their different properties.
Fun with 2D Shapes
The children in 1st Class truly adore their weekly trips to the school library. They are very responsible when using their own library cards to borrow books and they take great pride in choosing their reading material. We especially enjoy having a little peek through our new books just before home time.
Library time
In Art, we recently painted our clay creations. These included emojis, hearts and a variety of imaginative pieces inspired by the children’s own ideas.
Exploring with sensory toys during Golden Time
The children constructed dragon puppets as part of the Chinese New Year Celebrations, which will begin on February 17th 2026.
With not a minute to spare, 3rd Class have been very busy in the new year. Thankfully with the strong personalities and all the hard workers in the class, they have got through it all.
Maths
In maths the children have been working through a variety of challenging topics including division for the first time. They have been developing their maths talk and using a variety of new language when looking at chance. The boys and girls were learning about the characteristics of different 3D shapes and sorting them into different boxes in the Carroll Diagram.
For the first time, the children have been learning about division and have picked it up very quickly. They were able to spot the connections with multiplication and have used that to their advantage.
English
Before the Christmas break, the children were working hard on narrative stories and taking us into vast worlds with their extraordinary imagination. Now in the new year, the children have been working hard on their report writing where they have written reports on endangered animals and natural disasters from around the world.
Gaeilge
Tá an chuid deanta sa ghaeilge. Roimh an nollaig, caith na páistí an chuid am ag deanamh stáidir ar na siopaí éagsula atá timpeall orainn agus d’inis siad dom cad a féidir leo a cheannach sna siopaí sin.
Ón t-am ar tháinig siad ar ais ón sos, bhí na páistí ag foghlaim faoin bia éagsula agus chonas béala blásta a ordaigh i mbialann. Sílim go bhfuil piotsa ar insint gach duine sa rang.
Tá iontas beag ag teacht an seachtain seo. Béidh na páistí an gnóthach ag úsáid a chuid gaeilge agus iad sa chistin !!!
Art
Everyone in this class should class themselves as artists with some of the work they have produced in the last few months. The children have been using clay to create pots and scary monsters with a wide range of features. See if you can count all the eyes that were made!!!
Science
The class have put on their white coats and have been exploring what happens when different materials mix. They have predicted if they mix and if they can go back to their original state as well. The children have mixed liquids, solids and liquids and solids. It was messy but it was worth it.
