Weaving in 3rd Class

As part of Fabric and Fibre in Art, the children in 3rd Class are completing their weavings using the cardboard looms they build in class last week. Check out some of the cool and colourful completed weavings they have created!

March Fun in 5th Class

March was a busy month in St. Gabriel’s NS but one of the highlights was definitely Seachtain na Gaeilge. 5th Class had a fantastic time learning the Brush Dance and the Walls of Limerick céilí dance, listening to traditional Irish music as well as story reading as Gaeilge.

Lámh Sign of the Week

We are excited to introduce our Lámh Sign of the Week program! Every Monday, Ms. Fitzpatrick, along with Vicki, Aoife, and the wonderful students in Ms. Fitzpatrick’s class, will be visiting each class to introduce and demonstrate the Lámh sign of the week.

This initiative aims to increase awareness and encourage everyone to learn and use Lámh, a manual sign system used by children and adults with additional needs in Ireland. We’ll be sharing a new sign each week, and you’ll have the chance to learn it alongside your classmates.

A visual guide for each sign will be displayed in the PE hall, so you can refer to it and practice throughout the week. We hope this initiative brings us all closer together as we learn more about Lámh and how we can support communication in our school community.

The first sign of the week is “Hi” – a simple and friendly greeting to start us off! Let’s begin practicing and use it to connect with each other!

Exciting Changes to Our Library System!

Dear Parents,

We are thrilled to announce a major update to the way we run our school library! Our Junior Library is now live on our online system via Aladdin, making it easier than ever for students to check out and return books.

Here’s what’s new:

  • All Junior Library books are now online: Every book has been added to our Aladdin system, giving students access to a vast collection of books at their fingertips.
  • Easy check-in and check-out: Students can now check books in and out by simply scanning their new library cards, making the process quick and seamless.

We are very excited about this upgrade and believe it will enhance the reading experience for our young learners.

In addition, we’re beginning the same process for our Senior Library and hope to have all books uploaded to the system soon.

We look forward to continuing to support your child’s reading journey and are excited for them to explore the new features of our digital library system. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Happy reading!

A Busy March in Senior Infants!

We have had a very busy few weeks in Senior Infants. We started off March celebrating Pancake Tuesday by cooking and decorating tasty pancakes.

On World Book Day, we enjoyed reading plenty of books, went on a book walk around the school and had an immersive story time in the school library.

For Seachtain na Gaeilge the children got to experience traditional Irish music, brush dancing, stories in Irish, a ceilí and learned the story of St. Patrick.

This week, we went on a nature walk in our school garden to hunt for signs of spring.
