Exciting Changes to Our Library System!

Dear Parents,

We are thrilled to announce a major update to the way we run our school library! Our Junior Library is now live on our online system via Aladdin, making it easier than ever for students to check out and return books.

Here’s what’s new:

  • All Junior Library books are now online: Every book has been added to our Aladdin system, giving students access to a vast collection of books at their fingertips.
  • Easy check-in and check-out: Students can now check books in and out by simply scanning their new library cards, making the process quick and seamless.

We are very excited about this upgrade and believe it will enhance the reading experience for our young learners.

In addition, we’re beginning the same process for our Senior Library and hope to have all books uploaded to the system soon.

We look forward to continuing to support your child’s reading journey and are excited for them to explore the new features of our digital library system. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Happy reading!

Creative writers busy at work in 3rd Class!

Today, Mr Smyth’s 3rd Class took out the student laptops and started to type some of their great writing work. They started to learn how to create paragraphs (which they were learning about in Jolly Grammar recently) in a word document, to spell check and to edit their own work, which they have been writing in their writing workbooks. They are working on their recount and narrative stories and soon will start on their explanation writing! We’re very proud of our budding authors! Well done 3rd Class!

Cute Visitor in 2nd Class!

This week we had some special visitors in 2nd Class! Mother Heather and Baby Lucy visited us because we are learning about how to care for babies. We had such a nice time asking lots of questions and remembering stories of when we were babies! Thank you Lucy and Heather 🙂

Artist Visit to Mr Smyth’s 3rd Class

Today, Andy, a local artist, who works with fabric and fibre visited the class. She showed the children some of her work using a loom. She taught the children how to create their very own cardboard loom for weaving which they will begin next week.

The children also created their own macrame keychain decoration in their favourite colour using macrame cord and by weaving a twisted macrame pattern.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

This week we’re celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge at St. Gabriel’s N.S. There are a variety of fun and educational activities are planned throughout the week! These activities include:

  • Tráth na gceist (Quiz)
  • Ceol agus Cultúr sa Leabharlann (Music and Culture in the Library)
  • Leabhair as Gaeilge (Irish Books)
  • Tionóil sa Halla (Assembly in the Hall)

The week will conclude with our annual Lá Glas (Green Day) on Friday.

This will be a non-uniform day, where students are invited to come to school wearing green/ green accessories to celebrate if they wish.

We encourage all students to participate and enjoy these wonderful experiences.
