World Book Day 2026

We love books in St Gabriel’s NS so everyone is always very excited when World Book Day comes around every year! This year the children had a great time dressing up as literary characters and bringing their favourite books to school to share with friends. The junior, autism and moderate classes enjoyed some interactive story telling in the library and Bernie even used the book theme for our dance classes. Some classes designed book covers and bookmarks while others took part in quizzes. We can’t wait for next year.

5th Class Gardening

St Gabriel’s has a visiting horticulturist from Heritage Ireland coming to help us with our school garden. Today 5th class were learning about the different plants growing in our garden and how to maintain them. 5th class enjoyed “growing” their understanding of all the wonders in our garden.

Busy February in Mr Smyth’s 4th Class

February was a busy month for the children in 4th Class with the children making Brigid’s crosses and Chinese Lanterns, surveying other classes for Maths activities on Data and Bar graphs and having Dance with Bernie and Tag Rugby with Leinster Rugby.

We had our STEM Try Five workshop number 3 with scientists from TUD Grangegorman. This one was on electricity learned about electrons, protons, flow of electricity and circuits. At the end the children made Star Projectors using a simple electrical circuit.

The class began their group History research project on Ancient Egypt where they began working in groups to research different aspects of Ancient Egyptian life from mummification, the Pharaohs and much more.

As part of learning about Chinese New Year and their zodiac animals, the class in Art created paper Chinese lanterns.
