Busy March in Mr Smyth’s 4th Class

Its been a busy March in Mr Smyth’s 4th Class.

In Art the children are working with Fabric and Fibre creating colourful pom poms and jazzy bracelets.

In Maths, they have been working on chance– throwing dice and flipping coins and working out the probability of the outcomes.

In 3-D Shape, they learned about the Euler’s Rule discovered by Leonhard Euler in 1758, a formula in 3D geometry that helps them work out the number of edges of a 3-D shape when they know the number of faces and number of vertices.

5th Class – Fabric and Fibre in Art

5th Class had great fun creating their own bracelets today, using simple cardboard looms and colourful yarn. They carefully set up their disks, choosing vibrant colour combinations before weaving the threads in a repeating pattern. This hands-on activity helped develop fine motor skills, patience, and creativity. Each finished bracelet was unique, and many children decided to take them home and gift them to family and friends.

Ms. Fitzpatrick’s Class have had lots of fun reading from our story sacks. We listened to Winnie Wagtail and made a fabulous art board to celebrate World Book Day. This week, we read Itchy Bear and enjoyed naming all the animals in the story!

Pupils make their voices heard- St Gabriel’s NS Referendum Day

Today, the pupils across the school from Junior Infants to 6th Class made their voices heard in St Gabriel’s NS Referendum Day. They gave their opinions on how they felt about school, spelling, maths and moving to secondary school. Their valuable feedback will help us as a school plan for the future.

School Garden Update – Day 2 with Joan Power

Today marked the second day that our horticulture expert Joan Power joined us in school to work with the children in our garden. It has been fantastic to see the students learning through hands-on experience in nature.

So far, the children have explored the edible plants growing in our school garden and learned how to care for them through activities such as transplanting and deadheading. They also discovered how these simple gardening practices help plants grow strong while supporting local biodiversity.

Another exciting milestone this week has been the start of our potato and onion planting. The children carefully planted them and are already looking forward to watching them grow and harvesting them later this year.

We’re excited to see our garden continue to develop while the students build their knowledge of nature, food, and sustainability.

Cultúr sa Leabharlann

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, our library was full of music, movement, and Gaeilge as the children took part in a range of activities to immerse themselves in Irish culture.

We were delighted to welcome Mr Goherty, who spoke to the children about traditional Irish music and demonstrated a number of instruments, including the tin whistle. The children really enjoyed listening to the different sounds and learning about the role of music in Irish culture.

There was also plenty of movement and fun as the children were ag damhsa (dancing). They practised traditional Irish dances such as “Shoe the Donkey” and brush dancing, giving everyone a chance to experience the energy and rhythm of Irish dancing.

It was wonderful to see the children engaging with Gaeilge and celebrating our culture together in such a lively way.

A big thank you to Ms Condron, Ms Fahey, and Ms Leonard for organising these fantastic activities and helping to make Seachtain na Gaeilge such an enjoyable experience for everyone.

“Kindness Heroes” Visit from the Lord Mayor of Dublin!

Today we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor, representatives from Dublin City Council, and guests from Dublin Bus to our school to speak about the importance of Kindness Heroes in our community. Sixth Class had the opportunity to chat with the Lord Mayor and share a speech about their role as Wellbeing Ambassadors in the school. He was so impressed by their confidence and thoughtful ideas that he invited the class to visit the Mansion House. It was a very special visit and a proud moment for our students.
