The Heat is on in 3rd Class

The children are learning about heat in Science this month and today they were investigating how heat travels through solid objects in a process called conduction. With blobs of butter on the end of three spoons, one metal, one wooden and one plastic, we added boiling water to the bowl and made predictions about which butter would melt first.

They made sure it was a fair test by ensuring the butter blobs and spoons were the same size.

2nd Class and 4th Class maths games

Mr Donnelly’s 2nd Class visited Ms McLoone’s 4th Class to play some collaborative maths games and activities as part of Maths Week. We had great fun working on games and problem solving activities involving time, operators, counting and sequences. We hope to do it again soon!

Maths Quiz in 3rd and 4th Class

Today, 3rd and 4th Class came together to take part in a nationwide Maths Quiz as part of Maths Week. It was on zoom with mathematican Franz Schwindlein. Schools from across all the 32 counties of Ireland took part. Check out our busy hard working pupils in the pictures below.

Maths Week 14th-18th October in St Gabriel’s NS

As part of Maths Week 2024, the school will have a range of fun activities including Maths trails, Maths poster competitions and online zoom Maths Quizzes with schools from around the country. There will be Maths games in Junior Infants to 1st Class with parents invited in to take part. We will also have classes teaming up to work on Maths Problem solving activities together.
