In Mr Smyth’s class this month we are learning about our Solar System. We are working in teams each discovering new things about a different planet.
There are 8 different planets in our Solar System. There were 9, until Pluto got dropped!

Today 4th/5th class were learning about Magnetism and the greatest magnet of all- Planet Earth. Check out the experiment they designed themselves to make their own compass using only a basin, some water, a plastic tray and a bar magnet. An acrostic poem is a poem written 0using the first letters of the topic you are writing about. We have been studying poetry written about the season of Autumn. We have tried to write our own Autumn acrostic poems. Check out some of the poems the children wrote this week in Mr Smyth’s class.
Autumn by Leon
Autumn is great,
Until the dark comes,
The birds be flying away,
Until the light comes the dark will fade away,
Me and you we go out and play,
Now we come in until the next day.

Animals going asleep,
Under scattered leaves,
Thrown from the trees,
Until Spring comes around,
Month by month we wait,
Never ending weather.
Autumn by Destiny
All the leaves are falling,
Up high from the tress,
They are also dying which is very sad,
Up high where they are dying like a,
Mad contagious flu,
Next they will come back looking new!

A limerick is a funny little poem containing five lines. It has a very distinctive rhythm and rhyme pattern. This week Mr Smyth’s Class wrote some of their own- here are just a few. Hope you enjoy them!
“Tyr on Fire” By Lavinia
There once was a liar called Tyr,
When he lied his pants were on fire,
So he tried to stop,
He became a cop,
Sergeant Tyr and his pants on fire.

There once was a very small boy,
Who sat on a little car toy,
He was not happy,
He had a nappy,
And he sat on a little toy.

Whose favourite colour was cyan

Who survived a long lasting blizzard,
