Maths for fun !
With Maths Week fast approaching the children in 5th and 6th have really enjoyed learning some new Maths Games. Today they learned how to play Salute!
The children play in groups of three. One pupil is nominated as the dealer and deals the other two pupils a card face down. When the dealer calls ‘Salute’ the pupils place their card on their forehead without looking at it. The dealer then calls out the sum of the two cards and the pupils have to try and guess their card.

Zoom at Hugh Lane Gallery
The children in 5th and 6th class participated in the ZOOM project at The Hugh Lane Gallery. Here they observed and discussed a number of different artistic works. They also had the oppurtunity to make model dinosaurs and explore how green screen works.
Causey Farm
The children from Ms O’Dowd’s, Ms Whyte’s, Ms Walshes and Ms.Sweetman’s class went to Causey Farm Co.Meath on their school tour. They certainly didn’t muck around when it came to getting into the bog!!
Festival of Knowledge 2019
The children in 5th and 6th class were accompanied by Ms. Sweetman, Mr Donnelly and Ashley and particpated in the Festival of Knowledge today. A number of different STEM workshops took place in DIT Aungier St, These workshops included Augmented reality, Robotics and Arduino Automation. Everyone had a wonderful day!
Karate Kids!
Congratulations to the St. Gabriel’s After-School Club members who recently graded for their Yellow Belts in the Bushido Karate Gendai syllabus under Ms. Sweetman. Having shown great determination and a fantastic attitude towards learning over the past eight weeks, each student has sucessfully increased their fitness levels and also managed to develop a new skill set. Having undergone an examination on the 12th of December, each student showcased their ability to display the basics in both Karate and Kickboxing.
Very well done to all involved. The journey to becoming a master in any Martial Art can be a long and arduous one, however, if these students continue to value hard work and dedication in the way they have so far then anything is possible for them.
Paint and Colour
5th and 6th class explored the art of Marbling this week in school and we think they did a fabulous job. Marbling is the art of creating colourful patterns by sprinkling and brushing colour pigments on a pan of oily water and then transforming this pattern to paper.
