To celebrate Science Week, 2nd and 3rd class took part in the Space Goes to School Programme. We had a video call with Evan Slattery, a space engineer from County Limerick. Evan told us all about how he first became interested in space and showed us lots of cool videos. He spoke about the first landing on the Moon and the many inspirational astronauts who have travelled to space. We then had time for a Q and A where Evan answered our questions. One question we asked was ‘Is there Covid in space?’ The answer is ‘No!’ Astronauts must quarantine before going to work on the International Space Station. We had great fun chatting with Evan. It was a fantastic way to celebrate Science Week!

Today 2nd and 3rd Class were very busy designing Science Week posters to display around our school. Tomorrow we are taking part in the Esero Space Goes to School Programme. We will have a video conference with Evan Slattery, an engineer from County Limerick who is doing a Masters in Space Studies at the International Space University in Strasbourg. We can’t wait to learn more about Space and to share with you some of the interesting facts we learn. Happy Science Week from all in 2nd and 3rd Class!

2nd and 3rd Class are having lots of fun celebrating Maths Week. We have been taking part in our Tables Championship and playing maths games in class and for homework. We are also working on our Maths Art Competition entries. Today we made 3D shapes using matchsticks and plasticine. Check out our creative work!

2nd and 3rd Class have been busy learning about fire safety. We made Fire Safety Week posters and displayed them around our school. We then practised our fire drill and timed how quickly we could safely exit our classroom and reach our assembly point. It took us 1 minute and 25 seconds! We have been learning about what to do in the event of a fire and how to stay safe at Halloween time.

2nd and 3rd Class had lots of fun in art this week. We created 3D illusion art using shapes and lines. We began by drawing different 2D shapes. We made these shapes look 3D by drawing lines from the centre of the paper to the corners and edges of each shape. We then coloured in our shapes using different tones to further create the illusion of 3D.
