Our Green Walk 2015!

The staff and pupils of St. Gabriel’s came together for our annual sponsored Green Walk to mark the end of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2015.  A busy week was had by all as we celebrated our language and culture (teanga agus cultúr)  with a series of events such as a concert (ceolchoirm) with Irish poems and songs from the children from Junior Infants to 6th Class, a quiz in Irish (Tráth na gCeist) and some céilí dancing. On Friday, we all dressed in green and walked around the Stoneybatter area.  Thank you to all the friends, families and neighbours who kindly sponsored the pupils and we are confident that we have raised even more funds for school events than ever before! Go raibh míle maith agaibh gach duine.

St. Gabriel’s Annual Art Exhibition a Resounding Success

Our annual Art Exhibition, which took place on February 12th, 2015 was once again a great success thanks to the talented artists of St. Gabriel’s.  A myriad of beautiful and original pieces were on display for the parents and members of our community to enjoy, with our knowledgeable and interesting curators from 4th, 5th and 6th classes guiding everyone through the exhibition.

We welcomed the children from Rainbows and Dunard playgroups, parishioners from the Church of the Holy Family in Aughrim Street, members of Dublin City Council including Cllr. Ray McAdam representing the Lord Mayor, the parents of future, current and past pupils, community workers from groups such as An Síol and Áosóg, neighbours and many more.

Thank you to the parish centre in Prussia Street for the use of the display boards and a huge thank you to all our teachers and S.N.A.s who helped to set up the exhibition.  Finally a sincere thank you to all our curators and all the artists from Junior Infants to 6th Class who made this such a proud and enjoyable day.

Law Society President visits St. Gabriel’s

Last Friday January 23rd saw some very welcome visitors come to our weekly Friday assembly.  With Senior Infants performing a wonderful song, we had a huge turnout of parents who came along to enjoy the beautiful singing.

The children also had a warm welcome for Kevin O’Higgins, President of the Law Society, who came to present a cheque for €1000 on behalf of the Law Society of Ireland.  This money was donated to the St. Gabriel’s N.S. Breakfast Club which runs daily and has become an integral part of the school day.  The cheque was presented to Sinead O’Keeffe and Angela Carey who run the Breakfast Club with enormous warmth and efficiency.  Orla Coyne and Donald O Meara of the school Board of Management and Shane McCarthy, Council of the Law Society of Ireland also attended for the presentation.

1st and 2nd Class enjoy Clay Workshop

On Monday the children from 1st and 2nd Class went on a trip to the Draíocht theatre to take part in a clay workshop.  We left school straight away in the morning and caught the 39A bus all the way to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.  We even brought Freddy the Teddy with us!

Deirdre and Andrew were the artists who helped us to create some beautiful Christmas decorations from clay.  We used rolling pins, moulds and tools to shape the clay and different techniques such as pinching, cross hatching and rolling.  We made some fantastic decorations that we are now painting in our classes!

Parent and Teacher Meetings this week

Every November in St. Gabriel’s we invite you, the parents, to come into the school and meet with all the relevant teachers that work with your child/children.  We  have found that holding these meetings at this stage of the year allows our teachers to get to know their pupils and observe any progress, but also allows the parents and teachers to work and plan together for the coming year.  Both class and support teachers will be available for these meetings.

Meetings with parents will take place on Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th of November.  Please check the time and day that you have been assigned.  The meetings will last for ten minutes so we ask that everyone arrives for the time that they have been given.  We look forward to welcoming all of you at some stage over the next few days.
