St Gabriel’s NS pupils take part in Space Station link up

Taha in 4th Class and Fatma in 5th Class proudly represented St Gabriel’s NS during an historic radio link up with NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli aboard the International Space Station.

The amateur radio contact was part of the school STEM work with TUD Dublin, took place on Friday 6th October and was live-streamed using Technological University Dublin’s YouTube channel. The pupils had fascinating questions that their classmates had devised to put to the astronaut about life in space. Meanwhile on campus prior to watching the live stream pupils from the school received prizes for Space related art work and poetry completed during Space Week.

St Gabriel’s NS are very proud of our pupils work during Space Week and their participation in the contact. Huge thanks to Ana and the staff in TUD for the opportunity.

Space Week: Pupils to speak to astronaut aboard the International Space Station

Space Week, which runs for the week beginning the 2nd October, will see pupils across the school take place in STEM workshops, art competitions, poetry competitions and much more. It will culminate in an historic event on Friday, when two pupils from St Gabriel’s NS, alongside pupils from across Dublin, will pose questions to astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli aboard the International Space Station.

We are extremely proud of both Taha and Fatma and wish them all the very best this Friday. The event will be live streamed for all to watch along.

5th/6th visit to Cabra CC open day

Our pupils in 5th and 6th class had the wonderful opportunity of visiting Cabra Community College last Friday. We were warmly welcomed at the school and both classes were given a tour of the facilities and subjects on offer. They got to enjoy PE, Science, Music, Art, Home Economics, SESE, French, Technology and other subjects besides. It was also a great insight into the secondary school environment and the change in pace this brings. Most importantly, we all had great fun! Thanks to principal Neil Flaherty, HSCL Denise Yeates and all who helped organise a great day out.

Good Friends Week

It’s September again and for our first full week back in school we celebrate Good Friends Week. Our theme for this year is ‘Share a Smile’. It is amazing the power a smile can have. Smiling can help us to feel positive and happy as well as brighten up someone’s day.

Our return to school is always a very special time as we reunite with classmates and also welcome new pupils to our school. Pupils in St. Gabriel’s always make every effort to welcome and include new pupils and staff to our school. A smile is one way to help everyone feel welcome and happy.

During Good Friends Week, classes will draw up their class charters. They will use these as important guides to help ensure that each classroom is a friendly, safe and productive place to be in this year.

Our sixth-class pupils will greet their new buddies in Junior Infants. They will share lots of friendly smiles and introduce Junior Infants to games and fun activities on the playground during the week.

We will award prizes to children in each class who make an extra effort to share a smile throughout the week.

How many smiles will you share?
