2nd Class had the most spectacular colourful week ever!!
They made wonderful use of their “artist’s license”!!
“A picture paints a thousand words” – the proof is in the collages below.
Enjoy a peek into our 2nd Class art gallery 🙂
Well done to 2nd Class for their incredible participation in Sports Week 2020!!
Some amazing sporting activities took place this week from football, basketball, rock-paper-scissors tag, scooting, cycling, hula hooping, skipping, running, egg and spoon race, art work, Irish reading and writing, maths activities, reading sport related stories, creating mascots and many more.
A big thank you to all the family members who took part in all the fun activities!
Take a look at the pictures to see all the fun that was had.
Hi 2nd Class,
As you are all now set-up on Seesaw I will upload your activities there from now on. Please login to access the activities there.
You are all doing incredible work uploading beautiful art work, recording fantastic reading, writing descriptive sentences, challenging yourself at maths, putting a lot of effort into history and geography projects, trying different science experiments, reading and writing as Gaeilge, coming up with imaginative ideas for drama, practicing your singing and staying active doing different indoor and outdoor fun activities for PE. Every day Ms O’Leary, Mrs Condron, Ms Hanlon, Ms Dunne, Ms Fitzpatrick and I look forward to seeing the wonderful work you upload. Please continue to upload your fantastic work for us all to see. If you have not uploaded something yet, challenge yourself, let this be the week you do!
It is really important to remember in order to access material on Seesaw it is vital to have given parent’s consent to Mr. Donnelly our HSCL teacher via e-mail first.
Pop over to Seesaw now and take a look at this week’s activities.
Have a fun-filled and safe weekend,
Mrs. Walshe
Hi folks,
I hope you are smiling your way into the second week of Summer. We are so lucky to have such beautiful weather. I have had a “cracking” week. Let me introduce you to 2nd class’ new celebrity chicken!! Can you think of a good name for it?
It loves to chill on the hammock.
I saw some lovely daisy chains you made on Seesaw last week. It loves daisies too.
It knows how important it is to stay safe in the sun by wearing sunglasses.
It is the happiest little chicken ever. It never stops chirping. It loves food and attention so it is a lot like us all 😉
You have all been doing incredible work the past week. A lot of you are engaging so well with Seesaw. Those of you who are choosing not to do the activities that is ok but I would like for you to take a photograph of the work you are doing from the website or school work you are choosing to do yourselves at home and upload it onto Seesaw to show me. If you aren’t in a position to do this perhaps you could let our wonderful HSCL teacher Mr. Donnelly know. You can inform him that you will keep all work which you can show me when we return to school. Your learning is so important to me I want to support you in the best way I can and keep in touch by seeing the super work you are doing.
Here are a list of activities for the week ahead:
English:
Spellings/Sentences – Theme: Summer
List as many words as you can that are summer words. Then check did you think of any of the following ten summer words.
1. heat 2. swim 3. seaside 4. beach 5. sunshine 6. suitcase 7. bucket 8. spade 9. ice cream 10. pool – using these words try put each one into a silly sentence and create a squiggly word.
This week we will be uploading some specific reading on Seesaw so take a look for that. Mrs Condron, Ms Hanlon, Ms Dunne and I will be setting reading and reading based activities/tasks for you just like we do during Reading Hour in school.
In the mean time you can try this book scavenger hunt with a favourite book you have at home or an online book which you could download from Dublin City Libraries here
I would love you to read about The life cycle of a chicken and answer the 8 questions based on it. Remember to write a full sentence for your answer and some of the question is always re-written in your answer also. You can take a picture of the answers you have written and upload it onto Seesaw to show me.
If you enjoy learning about the life cycle of animals Ms Whyte uploaded a lovely video of tadpoles here
She also included a PowerPoint on The life cycle of a frog
You could read the PowerPoint and then create some questions for your mum/dad/brother/sister to answer after they have read it.
Maths:
Here are this weeks Maths word problems
I would love you to try some number puzzles.
There is an example at the top of the picture and remember always do the part inside the brackets first. You will be writing out two sums to get the answer. This may be a challenge but remember what we always say in 2nd class “be brave and give it a try”.
Gaeilge/Irish:
This week you can try make a shop at home and act as the shop keeper. The person buying something can ask the shop keeper “cé mhéad?” (pronounced kay vade) meaning how much? Using the picture below you can answer up to the value of 20cent. It is not an expensive shop!!
This can help you with how to pronounce numbers in Irish
Here you can listen and try count to 20 in Irish
You will notice that there are little differences between counting numbers in Irish and counting money in Irish. Can you spot the differences?
Scavenger hunts – SESE:
Awaken your senses and enjoy a sense scavenger hunt. As Spring has come to an end why not go on a scavenger hunt to see if mother nature has left any hints of Spring behind for us to enjoy a little bit longer. I would love if you could write up the things you found on your scavenger hunts or take photographs along the way and upload them onto Seesaw for me to take a look at.
Art:
Try make a hen hand print using the following steps.
1. Draw a hen 2. For its tail trace your hand prints lots of times. 3. Colour in your hand prints in all different patterns and colours making it a super funky hen.
P.E./Music:
To celebrate 2nd class’ newest celebrity chicken lets do the chicken dance
Ms Hyland posted a Throwback Thursday reminding us of the fun we had at our wonderful World Cup soccer competition. Maybe you would like to take a read and explain to your mum/dad/family members what it was all about. Congratulations to Poland again on winning and the 2nd class pupils who were key players on the team.
I hope you have a super week ahead. We are going to sign off and take a further look at the School website and 2nd Class’ fun activities.
Missing you all so much,
Le grá (with love)
Mrs. Walshe
Hi 2nd class,
What an incredible week I had getting a chance to speak to your mammy or daddy and even some of you. I am absolutely delighted to hear you are all safe and sound most importantly. I am so proud of you all for trying and attempting some school work each week. I could nearly swallow my ears it made my smile so big to hear you are all giving it a go.
Now that seesaw is up in action thanks to the incredible Mr. Donnelly and Mr Smyth, I will look forward to messaging you to hear how you are getting on. It would be fantastic if this week you could try to upload three pieces of work you have done for me to take a look at. I will continue to upload the main work I put together each week on the website, as requested by all, but I will also begin to add additional activities on seesaw for you to take a look at. You can do it but you don’t have to.
Unfortunately, the communion has been cancelled. I look forward to a new date being decided when we return to school.
This week I have been extra busy practicing playing my musical instruments.

I have been so lucky this week because the incredible Ms. O’Leary and Ms. Fitzpatrick have come up with some wonderful activities for you all. If you visit their folders there is lots more fun activities to do. Check them out!
The activities I have put together for this week are:
English
Try write as many “magic e” words as you can think of. The “magic e” rule is when the letter “e” sits at the end of the word, it is usually silent and the “magical e” tells the first vowel or the preceding vowel to say its name or long sound. The magic e vowels are as follows: a, e, i, o, u. Here are the 10 “magic e” words to put into sentences this week:
1. late 2. plane 3. name 4. smile 5. invite 6. cute 7. home 8. rude 9. slime 10. hope
*Remember to use adjectives (describing words like big, green, tall) and try make your sentences even longer than last weeks.*
Poem: Take a read of the poem “If I was a superhero” by Sally Gray. I want you to design your own superhero costume. You can draw it or put on clothes from your wardrobe to do this. (Maybe even borrow some things from your parent’s wardrobe too if you ask nicely.) Then write and draw about what you would do if you were a superhero.
Maths
1. This week we will be taking a look at Time.
In class we had been learning about reading time on the hour and half past the hour.
Try the activity below first.
The next activity below is a little bit more challenging.
2. This week’s 5 maths word problems
A “Super Project”
Here is a list of ideas to have a super week filled with super hero activities: Superhero day activity sheet
Design your own superhero: Design a Superhero – You can copy this drawing on a page and make it even more cooler with a super costume and lots of colour.
Create your own superhero mask: Superhero mask – copy this onto a sheet of paper and create it for your own superhero. Then cut it out.
Try create a super cool jet pack for your superhero: Jetpack Craft Instructions
Explain your superhero’s powers: Superhero Transition Writing
Art:
Why not try a step-by-step drawing jungle animals activity
Music:
Try practice singing some of these songs we have done as a class.
Why not make a Bottle shaker to shake along to the rhythm of some traditional Irish music. These are some of my favourite tunes I play on my instruments – Irish Music
Irish on RTE
Monday – Friday everyday from 11-2.Tune in and take a look.
I hope you all have an incredible week ahead and I really look forward to trying seesaw out with you all. I am so excited to see your super work that you can try to upload. When we get back to school perhaps we could have an ICE-CREAM party to celebrate all the wonderful work you will have uploaded on seesaw. You know Mrs. Walshe’s deal; “Work hard, Play hard”.
I hope you all aren’t too noisy at home like we sometimes are when we go silly in class 😉
Stay safe my little legends,
Mrs. Walshe the incredible 🙂
Hi folks.
Welcome back!! Hasn’t the sunshine just been incredible. I hope you have been outside enjoying it a lot. My favourite part of my day has been opening the curtains and blinds and having to wear sunglasses while I have my breakfast.
I have been so busy over Easter. I did a lot of fun gardening. I planted more flowers. I put solar panel lights on my garden shed. They are so handy because the sun’s rays power them so no electricity is needed. Most of all my brother Fiachra sent me 16 eggs. They are a mixture of different breeds of chickens. I will hatch them out in my incubator. Take a look at the pictures in the gallery to see them.
I am going to set some easy and fun tasks for you to do next week Monday to Friday. I really look forward to checking in with you all individually over the coming weeks to see how you are all getting on.
English Spellings and sentences:
-Make a list of as many “ea” words as you can.
-Here are 10 “ea” words to put into sentences. 2 a day.
tea, sea, eat, meat, meal, each, reach, please, beach, dream.
-Create a comic strip by drawing 6 boxes on a sheet of paper. Draw and write about the different type of Easter holidays you had this year. Try writing two sentences to go with each picture.
Maths:
-Before Easter you looked for all 2D shapes in your house/apartment/flat. This week I want you to look for all 3D shapes. Remember these aren’t flat like the 2D shapes. Take a look at the poster in the gallery to remind you of some 2D and 3D shapes.
-Here are 5 number stories to do Monday to Friday:
Remember our RUDE approach:
Read, Underline, Draw, Estimate.
1. The hen laid 6 eggs and then laid 8 more eggs. How many eggs did she lay altogether?
2. Tom shared his sweets with Sarah. Tom gave Sarah 6 blue sweets, 9 yellow sweets and 4 green sweets. How many sweets did Sarah get?
3. Laura picked flowers for her mum. She picked 12 daffodils, 8 sunflowers and 4 tulips. How many flowers did Laura give her mum?
4. Peter went swimming on Saturday. He did 5 cannonballs, 7 dives and 9 flips. How many different types of jumps into the pool did Peter do altogether?
5. Sally went on a bear hunt. First she spotted 6 grizzly bears. Secondly she saw 13 dancing bears and finally she noticed 11 bears eating honey. How many bears did Sally see on her bear hunt altogether?
SESE/ Project work:
-I hope your animal reports are coming along nicely.
This week I want you to write 16 names for the chickens and design a hen house for the chickens to live in when they hatch.
-In the picture in the Gallery you can see the solar panel lights on my garden shed. These are powered by the sun. Can you list important ways of staying safe in the heat of the sun now that the weather is getting hotter?
-Can you design a garden shed and write about what you would store in it?
Art/Drama:
In the Gallery of pictures you will see some daisies that are growing in my garden. Can you try making a daisy chain and then create a mini sketch(act out a play) where there is a king and a queen. Create their crowns using daisy chains.
P.E:
Everyday I want you to try doing:
1. 50 jumping jacks
2. 40 jumping with high knees
3. 30 cycling (lie on your back and with your feet in the air peddle 30 times)
4. 20 air punches (punch your arms into the air)
5. 10 burpees
Music:
I want you to try write a song about the sun and the good weather. Maybe you could include what you do on hot days; eat ice cream, have a water fight, make a daisy chain or go for a cycle.
I hope you’re helping all the adults at home. Remember every time we play we are also learning. This week I want you to be imaginative and think outside the box when you are playing. 2nd class stay cool, caring and incredibly safe.
Ms.Walshe the incredible.
Hi my incredible 2nd class 🙂
Happy Easter to you and your family. I hope you tried some of the activities and that “every-bunny” wasn’t kung fu fighting over who got to do the obstacle course first for PE!!
A little update of what I have been up to: I have mowed my lawn and created an obstacle course in it. I planted flowers, painted my hall, skyped my mum and dad; there are now 73 baby lambs on my farm in Mayo and there is still more to be born!!! I have decided to start keeping a diary of my time off. Maybe you could too and we could have a diary reading party when we return to school. I am so incredibly excited to hear what you have been up to the past few weeks.
I’m going to give you some really fun ideas of things you can do over the Easter.
Lets change PE up a little. Why not have a family “EGG AND SPOON RACE”. This is so easy.
“Easy option” put an egg on a spoon.
“Challenging option” cut a toilet roll in half and decorate it. Then place it on a runner/pencil case and try run while balancing it!!
For drama over Easter I would love to hear you designed your very own Easter parade with all the teddies, pots, pans, cushions, cereal boxes and anything else funny you can think of in your cupboards. The crazier the better. Why not take some pictures to show us when we are all back together (in the best classroom) in school.
To help students, we have been granted free access to the Grow In Love online series. Simply go to the www.growinlove.ie website and use the following details to login:
Email: trial@growinlove.ie
Password: growinlove
Try make a GIFT BASKET for a brother/sister/mum/dad. In this you could put in something you know they would love to have for a little while. Maybe it’s your favourite book or toy. You could also add a very special Easter card you made. The basket could be made from a cereal box, or it could simply be a special corner in your bedroom where they can pick somethings to play with or use.
Lets make your bedroom a bit more colourful and dramatic. Your whole family can get involved in this one. Try create an EASTER ART GALLERY. Ask everyone to design and draw their own Easter eggs/ bunny rabbits/ Easter parade/chicks or anything that is fun and colourful. Then hang them up on your wall or lay them out on your windowsill.
I hope your animal project is coming along well. Try write up about chickens and rabbits over Easter. Remember to give the animal a name, what it looks like, what it eats, where it lives, any other fun facts about it and finally draw a really cool picture of it.
If you “eggs-cuse” me now I am off to design the first picture for my art gallery. I hope you have an “egg-cellent” Easter and don’t get too “eggs-hausted” with the egg and spoon/ toilet roll and pencil case race.
Remember, I still thinks there is absolutely no “bunny” as incredible as you.
Have fun,
Ms. Walshe the incredible.
