2nd Class STEM and Art

Mr Donnelly’s class have been busy studying 3D shapes and static electricity in STEM. We made models from nets and carried out science experiments with balloons.

We also studied Impressionism and the work of Claude Monet, before making our own Water Lily watercolour paintings. We hope you enjoy!

Coding in 2nd Class

We had lots of fun using Scratch coding platform as part of STEM in 2nd Class to explore the basics of computer programming. We hope to cover a few lessons to keep developing our skills. Scratch is free to sign up to and use. Maybe the children can show you at home what they can do!

Festive shared reading with Junior Infants and Second Class

On Thursday Ms Sweetman’s class and Mr Donnelly’s class decided to do some festive shared reading and took turns reading each other some wonderful seasonal books. Junior Infants are becoming very independent around the school and 2nd Class were great role models to their younger school mates. Well done everyone, and happy Christmas!

Printing in Second Class

Second class have been having lots of festive fun printing with different materials and ideas. We looked at different ways of printing and then used baking tins, blue-tac and wooden blocks to make our own prints and copies.

Construction in 2nd Class

2nd Class were busy last week using cardboard and various fastening techniques to make different buildings. After visiting buildings in Grangegorman, getting architecture lessons from Emma and construction tips from Alex, we planned our buildings and used a little imagination and creativity in making and decorating them. We hope you enjoy!

Houses, homes and construction in 2nd Class

We have some fantastic parents in 2nd Class who have come in to share their skills and expertise with us as we continue to learn about the design and construction of buildings. Architect Emma has been coming in to explain what her job is about and to look at things like purpose, brief and planning. We went on to create drawings ourselves, following a range of instructions. Carpenter Alex came in to show us pictures of some of his work and he brought in lots of exciting tools too. Thank you very much!
