Past Pupils Visit 2nd Class

Many thanks to Gillian and Tony, two past pupils, who visited 2nd Class to talk to us about the history of the school. We found out lots of interesting facts about the school, how it was different in the past and also how some things have remained similar! We also learned about the history of our local area outside the school.

2nd Class Nature Walk in Phoenix Park

2nd Class are studying local environments, the seasons and plants and animals in SESE. We went on a nature walk in the Phoenix Park. We had lots of fun trying to identify the different trees and spot local plants and animals. We learned about tree rings telling the ages of trees and the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. We couldn’t resist a little trip to the playground at the end either ๐Ÿ™‚

History, Butterflies agus Dathanna

This week 2nd Class have been busy with lots of projects. In Science we learned about the life cycle of the butterfly. We saw their wings are symmetrical and after exploring this idea in maths, we used this in our art work.

We continued using maths and colours in Irish and discovered through carrying out surveys with each other that gorm is the most popular colour in the class! Maith sibh!

In history we have been learning about what our school was like in the past (it is over 100 years old!). Andrew came in to explain an old roll book and some old school photos. We found out some interesting facts about school and life in the past!

Second Class visit Stoneybatter

Second Class took advantage of the sunshine on Wednesday and went on a lovely trip around Stoneybatter. We have been looking at our local community and how people help us through their jobs. We visited a DIY shop, a take-away and an auto-repair shop. We learned a lot about how these people work and what they do to help different people nearby. Thank you very much to Gerard, Claudia and Barry!

2nd Class Abstract Art personality portraits

We’ve been studying line and drawing in abstract art.

We learned that many modern artists made new rules in art. Their drawings and paintings can mean many different things or even nothing at all!

We added some of our own personalities to our art. We hope you like it! ๐Ÿ˜Š
