Today in Mr Smyth’s 4th Class, as part of the school wide, Kindness Week, the children designed recipes for Friendship Cake.
They discussed what ingredients make a good friendship and the steps/ instructions towards creating a good Friendship using the right ingredients.

St Gabriel’s National School is pleased to be participating in a pilot initiative led by the Department of Education and Youth, providing additional wellbeing supports in selected primary schools.
As part of this pilot, an Education Wellbeing Practitioner, working under the direction and supervision of a psychologist from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS), is supporting our school community. The practitioner has completed the Wellbeing Ambassadors Programme, which is being implemented with our 6th Class pupils.
All 6th Class pupils will act as Wellbeing Ambassadors, promoting kindness, inclusion, and positive wellbeing during yard time.
Their role includes:
Posters displayed during yard time highlight the Buddy Bench and Games Corner.
A Wellbeing Ambassador display is located at the front entrance of the school, and ambassadors wear lanyards during yard time so they are easily identifiable and approachable.
This initiative helps develop leadership, empathy, and resilience while fostering a caring and inclusive school environment.
Today, Mr Smyth’s 4th Class welcomed a scientist and a musician from the National Concert Hall for a “Quavers to Quadratics” workshop where they learned about the relationship between music, sound and science. Check out some of the photos below.
Inspired by their study of Greek Mythology story “Theseus and the Minotaur” and by the beautiful picture book “Mary and Frankenstein” by Linda Bailey, accompanying their Over the Moon English reader, the children in 4th class created their own imaginative monster creations in clay today. Check out the photos below. Next week when they are dry they will add a splash of colour to the figures.
In history this month, 4th Class are learning about the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Check out the lovely artwork they created based on the story.
Today, the school welcomed Graham, a coach from Leinster Rugby, who began the first of four sessions of tag rugby with the children from 4th, 5th and 6th Class.
The sessions were fun and engaging and the children really enjoyed them.
A huge thanks to Graham and Leinster Rugby for this wonderful opportunity for the children to try out this sport.
St Gabriel’s NS was highly commended at the City Neighbourhood School Awards 2025 for the school’s fantastic community engagement, teamwork and pride shown in the school’s garden, the pupil’s sustainable fashion show and their efforts to be environmentally friendly. A number of pupils attended a special ceremony at Dublin City Hall with the Lord Mayor on Monday.
The event recognized the school’s efforts in making Dublin more active and engaged. The school came in for special mention by the Lord Mayor of Dublin in a post online at the event. Check out some photos below.
