Parents’ Cookery Class Christmas Celebration

The parents who attend Paula’s Cookery and Baking Class on Friday mornings finished the term off with a delicious feast of food from around the world. Paula prepared both traditional and other foods, and the parents brought dishes they had cooked at home. There was enough food to feed the whole school.

Great fun was had with Christmas crackers, paper hats and silly jokes, sharing stories and festive cheer. Many thanks to Paula for always providing such an enjoyable class.

The cookery class resumes on Friday 18th January, and is free and open to new people to join.

Parents’ Christmas Trip to Collins Barracks Museum

A group of parents visited the National Museum at Collins Barracks on Tuesday to take part in the Family Christmas Trails. There are two trails in the museum suitable for all the family – the Angel Trail and the 12 Days of Christmas Trail. Both trails are fun, interactive and finish with an art activity.

Helen and Hollie in the museum were excellent tour guides, as they always are. The museum is open through the Christmas holidays and the trails would make a fantastic, fun and free family day out.

Other events in the museum over Christmas:

Christmas Family Trails – running until 6th January 2016

Sunday 13th December, 3 – 4 pm – FREE “Hands on History” drop in activity.

Saturday 28th November, 3:30 – 4:30pm – FREE  Family Storytelling with storyteller, Jack Lynch

Sunday 3rd January, 2pm – The Mummers’ Play with Armagh Rhymers – traditional storytelling, folk theatre, music, singing, dance and drama and guaranteed to be a great laugh!

Nutrition Workshop for Parents

The second of two Nutrition Workshops for parents took place in the Parents’ Room on Monday. Participants learned about portion sizes, sugary drinks, dealing with fussy eaters, and even tried some simple and healthy treats that children can get involved with cooking.

The workshop was very informative, interesting, interactive, and most of all helpful for parents of young children, whether they are fussy eaters or not.

Huge thanks to the DCU Nutrition and Dietetics students who facilitated the workshops.

More information and the recipes are available from Anna – just drop in and ask for them.

Meeting with an Irish author in Phibsboro Library today!

Today Mr Smyth’s class paid a visit to Phibsboro Library to meet an author, Erika McGann. Read about their experience below…

Our Trip to Phibsboro Library By Ellie

Today we went to Phibsboro Library. We went to see an author called Erika McGann. She spoke about her books and she read a bit for us. She showed us some covers for her book Broken Spell. The covers were amazing. They were all so good. I couldn’t chose which one was my favourite. She was the winner of the Waverton Good Read Chidlren’s Prize 2014 for the Demon Notebook, the first in her magical series about Grace and her four friends. She gave us copies of the Fairytale Trap. She also gave all of us  bookmarks and posters. It was the first time I ever met an author. And on the way back on the bus me and my friends couldn’t stop talking about it! It was a fantastic day!
