May Day Work

Hi 5th and 6th class, I  hope you are all keeping well. I have really enjoyed being able to conact you this week on See Saw. You’re all great for doing the different activities. This week we will be doing something a lttle different. I would like you all to make a Time Capsule. A Time Capsule is a way of communicating with people in the futire. This Time capsule  will be something for you to reflect on when you are adults.

As you all know I am dog mad! I’d like to introduce you all to Rogue. She has kept me company during lockdown. She sits on my lap while I read her the stories you have written. Her homework over the Bank Holiday weekend will be learning how to ‘sit’ and ‘stay’.

Enjoy the weekend. I look forward to hearing from you all and I can’t wait to see what you put in your time capsules.

Stay Safe,

Miss Sweetman

Here is the cover of a time capsule. Use this as inspiration to create the cover of your own time capsule. You can use this one if you like too. Those of you who are on See Saw take a picture and upload it for us to see.

Trace your hand on a page and listen to some of your favourite music. How colourful and detailed can you make it? Upload to See Saw if you can.

If you don’t have news papers in the house don’t worry, maybe a parent could help you find some headlines online. Upload to See Saw when complete.

Take your time and draw some pictures of the different things you do at home to keep busy. Upload to See when complete.

Write a  letter to your future self, explain how you feel about staying at home. What are you looking forward to the most? Upload your letter to See Saw when you’re finished. Interview an adult using the above questions. If you are on See Saw you can record using a voice note or video. This could be a lot of fun!

5th and 6th class

 Hello Everyone,

I hope you and your families are all well and are continuing to find new ways to have fun at home. It was lovely to be able to speak to some of you this week, it really made me feel good. I have made another game board for you to try. It has lots of things that you could do by yourself or with your siblings.

For those of you who have been able to access SeeSaw I hope you’re enjoying it! I’ve really enjoyed reading your responses. Mr.Donnelly will give you a hand if you are having any problems getting started. The HSCL number and email are on the school’s website.

During the week I was out for a walk and noticed that someone had been painting stones and leaving them around for people to see. It really put a smile on my face as I didn’t expect to see it. Maybe this is something you could do?

Try to get up and get out for fresh air as much as you can with your families. Keep lending a helping hand and be kind to one another.

Missing you all,

Ms. S

Welcome back 5th and 6th class.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all keeping well and have found interesting ways to preoccupy your mind during these difficult times. Above you can see my three pals that have kept me very busy. Easter 2020 will definitely be one for the history books. You’re all making history everyday by staying at home.

I am only going to set you one task for this week but it is something I would like you to put a bit of thought into. Ireland is famous for making history at Easter. Now it’s your turn. I would like you to write an essay titled“Easter 2020, an Easter to remember”.Living in Ireland is a very special thing, in your essay talk about what living here means to you. If you were lucky enough to live somewhere else before Ireland, talk about the differences.

Continue to keep up all the hard work you are doing. Remember opportunities are usually disguised as hard work so most people don’t recognise them. Enjoy the extra time you’re getting to spend with your families and don’t take anything for granted.

Missing you all,

Ms. S

Easter Exercises 5th and 6th class

Hello Everyone,

I hope this message finds you well and that you all enjoyed last weeks activities. For most things this week all you will need is a pencil,  a copy book or a piece of paper.

Did you enjoy listening to the next few Chapters of ‘Holes’?.  I miss the great conversations myself and Ms. Fahey had with you about the characters and crazy predictions. I suppose at this stage we would also have to forgive you for watching the movie, “I would have”. If you have though continue to listen to the story and try and spot the differences!

I’d like to wish everyone who has had a birthday while we are off a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Don’t worry I’m sure we’ll sing for you all when we get back to school!

For this years Easter Holidays I plan to complete a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and try to convince the dogs that they want to go for ANOTHER walk! They run away from me now when they see me coming with their leads.

I have no doubt that you are doing everything you can to help at home. Remember to keep your things nice and tidy and clean up after you finish your activities.Enjoy the Holidays.

Missing you all,

Ms. S

St. Gabriel’s Supports Flags for Frontline Heroes

Across the country children are coming to a new realisation that heroes come in many forms and that many of them in fact are in their own homes. In the face of the Global COVID-19 pandemic, these heroes are their parents, cousins, neighbours and friends who are spending long hours, day and night, fighting to ensure that this virus is controlled and lives are protected.

We are asking if all children who have a flag in their county or club colours, or whatever team they follow across any code, would hang that flag from their gate posts, windows, or wherever they would normally place a flag when supporting their county club or team ahead of an important match.

While sports events at the moment are currently postponed, such a show of solidarity from the children of the country towards those on the frontline will demonstrate our gratitude for their marvelous dedication to their critical work at this extraordinary time. Hanging out the flags will also provide colour to lift everybody at a time when people are psychologically feeling the effects of this terrible pandemic.

It is the hope that in the coming days, with your help, every road, street, lane, avenue, estate and apartment complex will be festooned with colour to honour our Heroes – our families, neighbours and friends in the Frontline services.
