Senior Infants are learning about trains!

Over the past two weeks Senior Infants have been learning all about trains. As part of their role-play, the children pretended to check tickets and work at the lost and found desk. They worked in teams to construct railway tracks and learned many new words associated with trains. They listened to a story called ‘The Train Ride’, which was read by a real train driver! They asked the driver lots of excellent questions about her day. Furthermore, the children used their marvelous imaginations to draw what they might see from the window of a train. Well done Senior Infants!

Goodbye Art Week, Hello Poetry Week!

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic Art Week we’ve just had! We learned how to draw a toucan, a volcano, a panda, a Dachshund dog and a puffin. We drew self-portraits. Can you recognise your friends and classmates? We sketched what we saw from our windows and designed Viking shields. We revised warm and cool colours and studied the work of Andy Goldsworthy. Some students got inspired by their readers and constructed houses. For the art competition, we asked you to recreate some famous artwork. The winning entry is displayed at the end!

Below is a collection of the amazing work you uploaded! It was a pleasure looking at and compiling all your beautiful art work. Every student has a unique artistic style!

Here is our winner of the art competition! What a stunning recreation of ‘The Old Guitarist’ by Pablo Picasso. Well done to you!

Poetry Week begins today! We adore poetry in 3rd and 4th class. Ms O’Loughlin and Ms O’Leary have organised some wonderful resources which will be uploaded onto Seesaw. Have fun everybody!

Terrific 3rd and 4th Class

Hello everybody,

I hope you had a terrific Sports Week 2020! There were lots of active children this week! Well done to you! We created mascots to cheer us on. We designed school jerseys! We wrote entries into our Well-Being journals. I heard some impressive reading in both English and Irish. Maith síbh! I’m glad you enjoyed the guided dance videos! Well done for sticking with Joe even when it got tough! Thank you Ms Hyland and Ms Fahey for a brilliant Sports Week.

Hello 3rd and 4th Class

Hello all,

I hope everybody is keeping well! Well done to you for uploading such terrific work. I’ve heard some really impressive reading both in English and as Gaeilge. I’m getting brilliant responses from the science and geography tasks. Your Free Writing entries are so creative. Keep it up! All activities will now be uploaded onto SeeSaw. I will continue to update you here every Friday.

Those who are unable to upload onto SeeSaw, please keep everything so that I can look at all your copies or sheets once we are back in school.

I would like to say thank you to Ms Dunne for all the hard work she did in 3rd and 4th class. This was her last week in St Gabriel’s. She helped us with our reading and Maths and we will miss her.

Emma, Ashley and I are missing you very much.

Take care and have a lovely weekend.

Ms O’Dowd

Hello 3rd and 4th Class

Hello again,

I really enjoyed speaking to some of you during the week and am glad to hear you are keeping well and holding strong! Mr Donnelly has been working very hard setting up SeeSaw and I look forward to communicating with you. I will continue to upload work each week onto the website. Feel free to upload any work you do onto SeeSaw. I look forward to seeing all your fantastic work. Don’t forget to remind your parents that they must send an e-mail back to Mr Donnelly saying it is okay for you to use SeeSaw.

Do you know what my garden is full of? Yes, you guessed it – dandelions! These weeds grow everywhere! However, as a very knowledgeable St Gabriel’s teacher told me, dandelions are the first food for bees when no other flower is in bloom. Did you know that?       Hooray to Dandelions!

You can view your activities grid here Apr 24th

or view them below

You can revise or learn new words as Gaeilge (Irish) on duolingo

Do you recall how much we loved doing our counting? Well, if you go to Ms Whyte’s post you’ll find some more counting and fun activities there.

The RTÉ School Hub will teach specific home school lessons to 3rd and 4th class Monday to Friday this week. Tune in at 11AM on RTE2.

Catch up on any of Múniteoir John’s fantastic lessons here.  For example you can learn how to draw like Keith Haring or learn all about vibrations in this music lesson.

Here is one of my favourite songs ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. Do you like it? Now watch him perform it live. I would like you to act out of all the things that are beautiful to you and have a family member guess what they are. Now, draw a picture of what you see!

Would you rather

be 3 feet tall or 8 feet tall?

eat rotten cheese or rotten eggs?

have a helper robot or a helper monkey?

Emma, Ashley and I are missing you all very much. Have a lovely week with your family. Continue to help your siblings and the adults in the house.

Slán,

Ms O’Dowd
