1st Class Work

Hi all,

It was lovely talking to all your parents during the week. By now most of you are now set up on SeeSaw and working away on the activities on the app. I will continue to put some work up here on the school website but as most of you are up and running on the app I will put most work on SeeSaw – most of you are now getting the hang of making videos, typing on worksheets, writing on worksheets, recording audio clips and more. Well done and keep it up.

If anyone is having any problems with any part of working SeeSaw your parents can send me a message on SeeSaw or contact Mr Donnelly.

Please remind your parents that they must send an email back to Mr Donnelly saying it is ok for you to use SeeSaw.

Over the weekend I will load all of next weeks work here and on SeeSaw. So keep an eye on here and on SeeSaw. Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Our incredible journey continues…

Hi 2nd class,

What an incredible week I had getting a chance to speak to your mammy or daddy and even some of you. I am absolutely delighted to hear you are all safe and sound most importantly. I am so proud of you all for trying and attempting some school work each week. I could nearly swallow my ears it made my smile so big to hear you are all giving it a go.

Now that seesaw is up in action thanks to the incredible Mr. Donnelly and Mr Smyth, I will look forward to messaging you to hear how you are getting on. It would be fantastic if this week you could try to upload three pieces of work you have done for me to take a look at. I will continue to upload the main work I put together each week on the website, as requested by all, but I will also begin to add additional activities on seesaw for you to take a look at. You can do it but you don’t have to.

Unfortunately, the communion has been cancelled. I look forward to a new date being decided when we return to school.

This week I have been extra busy practicing playing my musical instruments.

I have been so lucky this week because the incredible Ms. O’Leary and Ms. Fitzpatrick have come up with some wonderful activities for you all. If you visit their folders there is lots more fun activities to do. Check them out!

The activities I have put together for this week are:

English

Try write as many “magic e” words as you can think of. The “magic e” rule is when the letter “e” sits at the end of the word, it is usually silent and the “magical e” tells the first vowel or the preceding vowel to say its name or long sound. The magic e vowels are as follows: a, e, i, o, u. Here are the 10 “magic e” words to put into sentences this week:

1. late 2. plane 3. name 4. smile 5. invite 6. cute 7. home 8. rude 9. slime 10. hope

*Remember to use adjectives (describing words like big, green, tall) and try make your sentences even longer than last weeks.*

Poem: Take a read of the poem “If I was a superhero” by Sally Gray. I want you to design your own superhero costume. You can draw it or put on clothes from your wardrobe to do this. (Maybe even borrow some things from your parent’s wardrobe too if you ask nicely.) Then write and draw about what you would do if you were a superhero.

I hope you all aren’t too noisy at home like we sometimes are when we go silly in class 😉

5th and 6th class

 Hello Everyone, 

 I hope you and your families are all well and are continuing to find new ways to have fun at home. It was lovely to be able to speak to some of you this week, it really made me feel good. I have made another game board for you to try. It has lots of things that you could do by yourself or with your siblings.

For those of you who have been able to access SeeSaw I hope you’re enjoying it! I’ve really enjoyed reading your responses. Mr.Donnelly will give you a hand if you are having any problems getting started. The HSCL number and email are on the school’s website.

During the week I was out for a walk and noticed that someone had been painting stones and leaving them around for people to see. It really put a smile on my face as I didn’t expect to see it. Maybe this is something you could do?

Try to get up and get out for fresh air as much as you can with your families. Keep lending a helping hand and be kind to one another.

Maths Game Challenge Maths Challenge

Welcome back!

A big hello to all the lovely pupils of St. Gabriel’s NS!  I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter break.  I know most of you were out enjoying the lovely weather and I was lucky enough to see some pupils in the Phoenix Park getting some exercise with their parents and family.

Cut the words out… | RSA Oracle

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog is a sentence known as a pangram.  A pangram is a sentence that contains all 26 letters of the alphabet.  Check it and see!  There might be some letters that appear more than once, can you find out which ones?  Which letter appears the most?  Write out the sentence on your whiteboard or a piece of paper and cross out each letter as you go through the alphabet.  Could you make up your own pangram?  I’m going to have a go myself!

Try to keep up your reading.  It’s a great idea to read a book that you have read before and that you know well.  When I was in school my favourite books to read again and again were The BFG by Roald Dahl and The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton.  For those of you who have PM readers at home, pick a book you already know and like and read it for someone.  Pick a different one every day this week and then try a new book that you haven’t read before on Friday.

And finally try to keep practising your Bumblebee Breath and your yoga poses.  The Cat is my absolute favourite at the moment!

School Update April 20th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that you and your family continue to be safe and well in these unprecedented circumstances.

I hope that you all have had some kind of a break over the Easter holidays.

I know that for many of you, circumstances will have changed as a result of Covid-19. All of the staff will do their best to support you remotely for the coming weeks in so far as we can.

We will continue to post up new work to be done at home each week. Feel free to work through this in any order as you may still have things from Week 1 that your child would like to continue working on.

You can also complete work set by other teachers as there may be tasks that your child is interested in doing from the classes below or above them, or indeed work set by our Support Team Teachers: Ms O Leary, Ms Whyte, Ms Fahey, Ms Dunne, Ms Fitzpatrick, Ms Hanlon & Mrs Condron. Continue reading →
